I know it is very frustrating when you download a template from a website and there is no documentation for it on who to set it up. The most important things you have to know when using the template is the compatibility with your system and the available module positions. Module positions for a Joomla template are defined in the XML file, but if this is missing you won’t be able to find the positions unless you check the coding or use the following tutorial that does not require any programming knowledge.
You will have to login to your Jooml administration panel and go to the template manager and click the options button.
[alert-note]Extensions > Template Manager > Options[/alert-note]
After that click enable to Preview module positions and save your settings.
If you are done with this step, go to the frond-end of your joomla installation and add this code to the end of your URL: ?tp=1
Your URL should look like this: [alert-note]http://yoursite.com/?tp=1[/alert-note]
One thing that I should mention is that the template you want to check the module positions for, should be set as default template. If you did everything well, you should see all the available module positions of the template:
If you have any questions, please use the comment section. Soon we will create another tutorial on how to add a new module position to a particular template. That will involve some basic php coding with html and css styling. It will be fun!
